Populate dataset with information from layer

This article shows how to populate a dataset with information from a map layer.

Sometimes you need to find county name or census tract FIPS code for each location in a dataset. Map Business Online provides that functionality as part of Market Analysis feature.

  1. Start by plotting your locations on map. See this link for detailed instructions.
  1. Click ‘Market analysis’ icon on Map Business Online main toolbar.
  1. On the page that pops up select ‘Add names and other information from map layer to dataset’ option. Click Next.
  1. On the next page select a dataset you want to populate with more information. You can select a dataset or a marketing list here.

Choose a map layer to obtain information from.

Finally pick data variables to populate to your dataset with. In the example below we selected county name and state. You may want to change default names for inserted data columns as we did below for State abbreviation. We should better change Name to County but we didn’t.

    Click Next button when ready.
  1. Map Business Online starts populating your dataset with selected information. Confirmation dialog will popup upon completion. Click Done.
  1. Map Business Online will open the dataset in Data window and will scroll added data columns into view.
