Search ZIP codes by territory

This article explains how to find all ZIP codes (point and boundary) within a sales territory and export the ZIP code list. NOTE: you would need annual subscription to follow instructions in the article.

  1. In case you didn’t map your territories yet, start by building your territory map. Sales territories can be based on any alignment layer including ZIP codes, Counties, or States. Please check this article for detailed instructions.
  1. MBO comes with a number of pre-loaded datasets including latest ZIP codes. Select and plot the ZIP code dataset on map. To do that click ‘Plot data’ icon on the main toolbar.
  1. Plot data wizard will start. Skip introduction page. ‘Select data’ page will show. Select ‘From server’ tab as shown on the picture below and choose ‘Public data’ folder. You will see list of public datasets on the page.

    Select ‘ZIP codes …’ dataset of the latest release and click ‘Next’.
  1. Map Business Online will start plotting selected ZIP code dataset. When data has been plotted, just click ‘Done’ on the Results page. Choose ‘No’ if MBO asks you to color code plotted locations.

    Your map will now show all ZIP code locations.
  1. MBO will automatically open Data window and select plotted ZIP code dataset in the window. You can now search ZIP codes.

    Just click yellow puzzle icon on the Data window toolbar. In the dialog that will popup choose the first option to search data inside select territories. Click Next button.
  1. In the next dialog select a territory you want to search and click ‘Next’ button. You can also search by multiple territories. Just hold shift or control key and click to select territories for search.
  1. In the next dialog enter name for marketing list that will contain ZIP codes in selected territory and click ‘Create’.
  1. Now the ZIP code list appears in Data window!

    What can you do next? You can filter locations on map to the list or export the list in a file. Click the ‘data table with diskette’ icon on the Data window toolbar to export the list.
